PAVEL TICHON
New & Old Media Artist

The important things for my work are always intuition, association and metaphor. But the existence of these approaches is not clear at first glance, and it cannot be simply decoded against the backdrop of tasks (works), which are sometimes intentional and sometimes literal for reasons of capacity. The literal nature of the work smacks of cheap perfume from which there is no escape. I like literality because, at the surface of events, it affords a seemingly unambiguous interpretation. It has the power to comfort a superficial viewer and the power to beguile the more demanding ones, offering them further layers of cheap glitter. Literality is raw, naked and secular, but intuition, association and metaphor come most likely from jam jars meant to be filled with star dust, whose lids bend light into black holes, so they can be neither preserved nor digitalized. Nevertheless, don’t look for anything beyond them. Definitely. Not too much.
